Manitou Park basketball program began in 1992.This is an 8 week program that is ran during the summer. When the program first began in 1992 is started off with about 40 children for a $15 fee per child. The year of 2009 the program has grown to about 200 children for the same fee of $15 per child. It is an affordable program for our community.

This program was created to help keep our youths off the street and into something positive. It teaches our young children structure and responsibility. It also helps our young teens to become more responsible and to look at like in a different perspective. During the time together each day everyone in, around and on the program has the opportunity to learn about people and different nationalities.

Opening the Manitou Park basketball program gave us the opportunity to open other programs such as:

Family Day

Family Day is one of our programs everyone looks forward to. This program is about bringing all nationalities together to have fun and enjoy others. At this event we serve food, have rides and other amusements for families. We also have special guest come out to visit us such as the Army, Navy and Marines. College student and coaches also visit along with Job Core and professional basketball players such as Adrian Griffin and Andréa Miller. The mayor of Berkeley Township Jason J. Varano also comes to visit this event. We also have trips for the children to go see college and professional basketball, football and baseball games.

At this Family Day event we perform a variaty of contest such as:

·        Talent Shows   -  Limbo Contest   - 3 on 3 Tournaments

·        Slam Dunk Contest  - Hot shot Contest  - 3 Point Contest   -Hula hoop

We also give away school supplies like book bags, note books, pencils, crayons and gift cards for clothes.

During the course of the year we have holiday parties. On Easter we gather the children and have a big Easter egg hunt. We provide Thanksgiving baskets to families in need for that holiday. Christmas time we have a Christmas party and provide all the children with winter gear (coats, gloves, hats and toys).

Each year there is a community breakfast along with adult parties and talent shows to raise money for our program.
